Billie Travis retired after 39 years in education. Twenty-five of her twenty-nine years in Scott County (KY) School District were spent as a teacher of middle school mathematics Billie also served three years as a curriculum coach. She followed up her teaching career by working ten years for the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) as an Educational Recovery Specialist working in schools identified for Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI). Her role at KDE was to assist these schools as they aligned curriculum designed to improve education for all students. A highlight of Billie’s career is that she earned the honor of Kentucky’s 2005 Teacher of the Year. She attributes her success as a coach to her experience working in the classroom with students from many achievement levels and from diverse backgrounds.
