May 3, 2005 Students Must Be Ready for a Global Marketplace
This article depicts the important message that Dr. Gerry House, president and CEO of ISA, shared in her speech at the Administrator’s Breakfast at the National School Boards Association Annual Conference in 2005. House explained that in an increasingly high-tech global society, where Chinese and Indian universities are graduating nearly six times as many engineers as the United States, our nation’s school leaders must do more to prepare American children for the future. “To compete in tomorrow’s economy, today’s students need to be taught to solve complex problems, integrate ideas across disciplines, communicate effectively and be creative,” House said. House also discussed her work with the Institute for Student Achievement. “The small learning comminutes that ISA helps to create allow teachers and counselors to build stronger relationships with students,” House said. “That in turn, means students are less likely to fall through the cracks and more likely to receive the personal attention they need to succeed academically.” |
