Teachers

It is the commitment of ISA’s teachers that enables students to achieve by providing the high-quality, supportive and rigorous education to which students are entitled as individuals. Collectively, ISA partner schools’ one-student-at-time approach has become our hallmark. We provide the framework – students leverage it and make it their own. Accordingly, each ISA partner school establishes a unique sense of community and support in a context of intellectual stimulation.

Our teachers have many roles. They engage students in academically rigorous instruction, supporting them in making meaning from knowledge; they provide inquiry instruction in the disciplines, creating relevance to real-world situations.  Teachers also serve as advisors and develop caring relationships with students, which they can leverage to get students to engage in and persevere at more challenging work, leading to graduating college ready.

Teachers share a unity of vision and purpose, and ISA’s Seven Principles serve as a rallying point for faculty. A recent study by the Academy for Educational Development found that in contrast to a national sample, ISA teachers have reported "a sense of community ...a shared vision for the school and ongoing opportunities for teacher professional growth."

In addition, ISA recognizes that teaching and learning are at the core of effective instruction and student achievement. ISA focuses on teachers’ professional learning by providing professional development opportunities, offering teachers ongoing support and the opportunity to continuously develop their skills as educators.
